Since 1989, the Debutante Program, founded by Sandra Forsythe, has provided African American high school seniors with the opportunity to explore and embody “decorous womanhood.” This program focuses on personal growth and development through various enriching experiences, including pre-college workshops, cultural events, community service, worship experiences, and dress-for-success classes. Our goal is to guide young ladies toward excellence, confidence, and leadership while preparing them for college, career, and life.

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to mentor and instruct high school seniors, preparing them for life beyond high school. The program equips participants with leadership, academic excellence, social etiquette, and volunteerism, providing a foundation for a successful future. Our vision is to present well-rounded, confident, and poised young women to societyβ€”ladies who are not only academically prepared but also culturally and socially enriched, ready to pursue their goals and understand their purpose.

Program Overview

The Debutante Program begins in October and culminates in April with the elegant Cotillion Ball, where debutantes are formally presented to society. This event celebrates their accomplishments, growth, and contributions. Scholarships and monetary awards are given, and one debutante is crowned “Miss Debutante” in recognition of her achievements.

Activities & Workshops
Participants in the Debutante Program engage in a variety of events and workshops designed to enhance their social, educational, and cultural understanding, including:

What is a Debutante?
